The vacuum belt's primary function is to turn the agitator brush bar, which is used to beat dirt and dust out of the carpets.

They are stretched between the motor pulley, which powers the belt, and the brush bar.

If your brush roll has stopped spinning, the vacuum doesn't pick up or there is a smell of burnt rubber then these are all signs that the vacuum belt may have come loose or snapped. Vacuum belts can snap to protect the motor and they loosen over time. It is for this reason that it is recommended that you replace the vacuum belt every 4 - 6 months.
